Bridge to Asia Fellowship: A Premier Opportunity for Future Asia Policy Leaders

The Bridge to Asia Fellowship, offered by the National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR), is a prestigious program designed for undergraduate and community college students interested in Asia policy and international affairs. Fellowship Structure

1. Orientation Month (Remote – May 2025)

Before the in-person experience begins, fellows will engage in virtual training sessions (5–10 hours per week) to:

• Learn about NBR’s research focus and workplace culture.

• Set professional goals.

• Attend virtual events and policy discussions.

• Connect with mentors and supervisors.

2. Summer Residency (In-Person – June–August 2025)

Fellows will join NBR research teams in either Washington, D.C. or Seattle, WA, gaining practical experience in:

• Policy research and writing

• Project management and event planning

• Publication support and editorial work

• Networking with industry leaders at think tank events

Eligibility Criteria

To apply, candidates must:

• Be currently enrolled as an undergraduate (first-year, sophomore, or junior) or community college student.

• Have a strong interest in Asia and U.S. foreign policy.

• Be able to relocate to Washington, D.C. or Seattle, WA for the summer residency (or already reside in one of these cities).

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit the following materials via the NBR application portal:

• Three short essays (250 words max per essay):

  1. How did you become interested in Asia and foreign policy? What topics interest you most?

  2. Describe your background and experiences that shaped your worldview.

  3. How would this fellowship help advance your career goals?

• Supplemental questions regarding location preference, relevant experience, and language skills.

• Unofficial transcript from your current institution.

• Resume or activity list showcasing relevant experiences.

• Two letters of support:

  • Academic reference (professor, advisor, or instructor)

  • Character reference (mentor, supervisor, or community leader)

Incomplete applications will not be considered.
