Science@Leuven Scholarships: Study at KU Leuven with Financial Support

The Faculty of Science at KU Leuven, in collaboration with the Science@Leuven alumni association, is pleased to offer the Science@Leuven Scholarships. This esteemed scholarship supports talented international students who aspire to pursue a master’s degree at KU Leuven, one of Europe's most distinguished universities, located in Belgium.

Scholarship Overview

The Science@Leuven Scholarships are designed to support highly motivated international students who wish to study at KU Leuven’s Faculty of Science. The scholarship applies to a range of master’s programs and provides financial assistance to ease students' academic journey.

Eligible Master’s Programs

The scholarship covers the following master’s programs at the Faculty of Science:

• Master of Physics

• Master of Chemistry

• Master of Geography

• Master of Statistics

• Interuniversity Master of Geology

These programs offer a robust foundation in scientific knowledge and research, preparing graduates for successful careers in various scientific domains.

Scholarship Benefits

The Science@Leuven Scholarship provides financial aid, including:

• Tuition fees for one academic year.

• Health insurance coverage for the duration of the scholarship.

• Living expenses up to €12,000 for one year (the exact amount is determined by the Science@Leuven Fund Board).

While the scholarship offers significant financial support, students are encouraged to have additional funds to cover extra living expenses. If the student performs well academically in the first year, the scholarship may be extended to the second year of the program.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Science@Leuven Scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Language Proficiency: Must demonstrate English proficiency with a minimum TOEFL score of 94 or an IELTS score of 7.

• Academic Qualifications: Hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution that qualifies them for the master’s program. Applicants should not have a master’s degree or Ph.D.

• Academic Excellence: Maintain a strong academic record with evidence of excellent study results.

• Motivation: Clearly demonstrate their enthusiasm for pursuing a master’s degree at KU Leuven.

• No Prior Enrollment at KU Leuven: Applicants should not have previously studied or worked at KU Leuven.

• Ambassadorship: Successful candidates must be willing to act as ambassadors for the scholarship program.

Application Process

Follow these steps to apply for the Science@Leuven Scholarship:

1. Apply for a Master’s Program

   • Submit an application for the desired master’s program via the KU Leuven application portal. Read the instructions carefully.

2. Prepare and Submit Required Documents:

   • A complete transcript of courses taken, including credits and grades.

   • A brief description (½ to 1 page) of the most relevant courses for the chosen program.

   • Two reference letters from internationally recognized professors.

   • A motivational letter detailing the reasons for choosing KU Leuven and suitability for the program.

3. Receive Confirmation:

   • Upon submission, a confirmation message will be sent. Applicants should take a screenshot of this message for scholarship registration.

4. Apply for the Science@Leuven Scholarship:

   • Use the link provided on the KU Leuven website to submit the scholarship application.

5. Final Registration:

   • Upon successful submission, applicants will receive an email confirming their scholarship registration.

Important Notes

• Only candidates who meet all eligibility criteria will be considered.

• Scholarship applications must be submitted before receiving final admission into the master’s program.

• The scholarship application will not be reviewed if the applicant is not admitted into the program.
