Recognizing the need for greater female representation in scientific research, this fellowship provides funding, recognition, and career-enhancing opportunities for postdoctoral researchers in the United States. The program not only aids in advancing groundbreaking scientific discoveries but also promotes the active participation of women and girls in STEM fields.

Who Can Apply?

The fellowship is specifically aimed at women postdoctoral researchers who meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a Ph.D. and are in a postdoctoral research position by January 31, 2025.

  • Maintain postdoctoral status throughout the fellowship period.

  • Be a U.S. citizen, naturalized citizen, or permanent resident.

  • Be affiliated with a U.S.-based academic or research institution.

  • Conduct research within the U.S. in life sciences, physical/material sciences, engineering, technology, computer science, or mathematics.

  • Not hold a faculty position.

  • Commit to at least 20 hours of outreach activities to support women and girls in STEM (e.g., mentoring, classroom visits, and public engagement).

  • Be available to participate in the For Women in Science Awards Week in November 2025.

The Selection Process

The fellowship follows a rigorous two-stage selection process to ensure the most deserving candidates receive support:

🏆 Jury Review: A distinguished panel of leading scientists selects five winners from the top-ranked applicants.

Evaluation Criteria

Applications are reviewed based on the following key factors:

  • Scientific Excellence – The research must be of high quality, innovative, and feasible.

  • Impact & Contribution – The research should advance the field and offer meaningful contributions to society.

  • Candidate’s Qualifications – A strong academic and research background that demonstrates excellence.

  • Research Plan – Clearly defined objectives, methodology, and feasibility of the proposed project.

  • Originality & Productivity – The research must be unique, relevant, and capable of producing significant results.

  • Institutional Support – The host institution must provide adequate resources for the fellow’s success.

Career Development & Community Outreach

  • Career Growth – The fellowship should contribute positively to the recipient’s career development.

  • Budget Proposal – The research plan should include a detailed budget, outlining the use of funds for tuition, lab supplies, conferences, and outreach initiatives. (Up to 10% of the budget can be used for outreach activities.)

  • STEM Advocacy – Applicants must demonstrate a history of supporting women and girls in STEM and propose future outreach initiatives to promote gender inclusivity in science.
